Aging Camera, Old Sword

A Word on Distorted Imagery

Distortions are about perception, creating reality. It's about the discrepancies between a still image, that image while in motion, how that image changes through that motion, and how that image's movement is captured within another still image. It's separating what something is into what it appears to be and how everyone can see something different or everyone can be fooled into seeing something which isn't. It is a view of the perception of time as it affects reality. Time marches as the consciousness picks up bits and impressions of what is happening. Sometimes the perceptions are fairly clear, sometimes they are horribly muddled, and sometimes what you think you saw never really happened.

The Actual Entry:

My camera's getting old. How old? I'm not really sure...several years...can't really place a specific number. All I know is that I've had a few oddities occur while using it now. There are have been a few times in which the camera has shut down when the auto focus attempts to focus (how fortunate that I tend to not use auto focus.) And then there have been a couple of instances on one day in which the CCD appeared to have only capture half of the image (an interlaced appearance) while the other half of the image was blank. Well, actually it just so happens that the biggest issue with the loss of image data was also centered in a less than normal shoot for me in which I was utilizing lighting and subject matter (photos as a bit of a study) that I do not normally utilize:

I made pizza sauce this morning. It's been quite a while since I've made pizza sauce and the last time I made it I attempted to use puree instead of fresh tomatoes for it (it didn't come out well...ingredients are measured out per specific amount of fresh tomatoes.) Making sauce made me realize something...I'd like a pressure canner. So that's another device to be added onto my list of things that I want to get at some point. It keeps good company with things such as a paper shredder, a deli slicer, and a griddle. I think I may just take a look around and get a pressure canner in the near future though.

Here ye be footer.

Enjoyed looking through your gallery. It's especially interesting to see the progression over time.

As much as I love symetry, my favorites fall amongst the asymetrical variations.

Keep it up.

I don't really do much manipulating. In some way or another, everything that I've been doing can be done in a dark room. Of course, it would be an absolutely disgusting pain in the ass to do it in a dark room.

Of course if there was a category that I felt better represented the work than just "photography", I would use that. But photography seems to first the best as most of what I'm doing is contrast and color adjustments (a lot more color adjustments than contrast), rotations, flipping, some manual mirroring, and inverting colors/creating negative images.

I would write this on individual comments for different pieces but alas time is being a jerk and not giving me enough ressources to do so...

Nonetheless, I must say that I am quite pleased by a number of pieces in your gallery! Light and light effects have always fascninated me, and your many abstract work which center on this subject simply strike a... a sort of chord in me.

I'd say more, and in more eloquant terms, but there's a reason why I make visual work rather then prose, heh..
